Koh Samui
Koh Samui is Thailand’s third largest island, nestled off the east coast and falling within the Surat Thani province. With a population of only 55,000, Samui is a major attraction people all over the world seeking to spend their days basked in the warm climate while taking advantage of the many lushly vegetated parks and striking coastlines. The clear, calm waters offer a range of different diving sites to explore, offering as much natural beauty underwater as there is above.
The infrastructure of Samui has improved drastically over the past 30 years with more roads, services and even an international airport which offers daily flights to major Asian destinations like Bangkok, Singapore and Hong Kong.
After Phuket, it is the most popular tourist destination in Thailand, attracting thousands of visitors a year to walk its white sandy beaches, explore its life filled lagoons and swim in the crystal clear water surrounding the island.
Pattaya
Located right in the heart of the Gulf of Thailand, Pattaya is a haven for people trying to escape the big city life, but still have all the comfortable amenities of home. Bustling with shops, bars and of course beaches, Pattaya has staked its claim as one of the must visit R & R resorts in Thailand. With over 10 word class golf courses within a stone’s throw from the city, Pattaya attracts thousands each year to challenge themselves and others on some of the most scenic and breathtaking rounds the sport has to offer.
Pattaya beach is situated right alongside the city centre, giving residents easy access to the abundant nightlife area surrounding the beach when the sun sets. Further down, Jomtien beach offers another getaway for people to soak up the sunshine and take advantage of the numerous activities available all year round.
Nestled in the Gulf of Thailand, Pattaya offers a range of different diving sites suitable for beginners right the way up to the most experienced of divers. With over 10 different islands and dive sites situated within a few kilometres from the city centre, Pattaya pleases city and nature enthusiasts alike.
Because Pattaya is mainland, you benefit from proper infrastructure, schools, hospitals etc. However if busy city life gets to you, the beautiful island of Ko Samet is only an hour’s drive away followed by a short ferry ride. However there is so much more to see with all the small islands around Pattaya itself. Ko Larn for example is only a 15 minute speedboat ride from Pattaya or Jomtien beach.
Hua Hin
The famous beach resort town, based in the northern part of the Malay Peninsula, enjoys a myriad of nearby endearments thanks to its close association with the Thai royal family. It is self described as ‘City of pure gold, delectable coconuts and pineapples, delightful beaches, mountain and caves, land of spiritual beauty.’
King Prajadhipok was the first King to build a royal residence there, calling it ‘Wang Klai Kang Won’ or in its English translation ‘Far from Worries’. The majestic residencies are still there to this day with King Bhumibol residing in what was Thailand’s first beach resort.
For travellers and residents it caters for a multitude of attractions including Buddhist temples, numerous national parks and historical sites and of course the signature Thailand nightlife, which when mixed together creates a cluster of entertainment and natural wonder.
Phuket
Infamous for its nightlife activities and awe inspiring beaches, Phuket is an island getaway situated on the Andaman Sea. As Thailand’s largest island (roughly the size of Singapore) it is host to a copious amount events and festivals throughout the year.
Home to the breathtaking Kata, Karon and Kata Noi beaches the island is a major tourist draw and a must see on any self respecting backpackers list. With the luxurious Phi Phi islands only an hour away by ferry many come to Phuket with high expectations which do not disappoint.
A cultural hive of panoramic beaches, fantastic local dishes and friendly locals, Thailand’s most popular resort is seen by many as the ideal island getaway.
